You must have a D number or national identity number

Every person involved with a business enterprise, e.g. sole proprietors, managing directors, board members or contacts in a NUF, must have either a Norwegian national identity number or a D-number. You may apply to be assigned a D-number at the same time as you submit a coordinated register notification to register your business enterprise.

How to register your business

You must complete the form called Coordinated register notification to register your business in Norway.

There are various version of the form, depending on which form of organization your business has, as well as an English-language guide to filling out the form.  

Registration in the Register of Business Enterprises or Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities

NUFs engaged in business activities must be registered in the Register of Business Enterprises.

Sole proprietorships that only offer services may choose to only register in the Central Coordinating Register for Legal Entities for free.  

Sole proprietorship that trade in purchased goods, or have more than 5 employees, must also be registered in the Register of Business Enterprises.

Registration in the Register of Business Enterprises is subject to a registration fee.
